Why we built this

IWantFreeQRCode.com is a completely free QR code generator with no signup, no watermark, and no hidden fees. We built it because most QR code tools either charge for downloads, add watermarks, or require account creation to get a working code.

QR codes should be accessible to everyone - a restaurant owner with one location, an Airbnb host, a freelancer who wants a vCard on their business card. None of those people should need a monthly subscription.

How the generator works

All QR codes are generated in your browser using the open-source qrcode library. When you type a URL or WiFi password, the QR code is computed locally on your device and rendered to a canvas element. Nothing you enter is sent to any server.

This is particularly important for the WiFi QR code generator. Your WiFi password never leaves your browser. Not even encrypted. It simply is not transmitted anywhere.

PNG downloads use the browser's canvas API. SVG downloads use the qrcode library's vector output. Both happen entirely on your device.

Who uses this site

Most people here need a handful of codes rather than a subscription. Small business owners putting a WiFi or menu code on the table. Event organisers producing a check-in code per session. Educators linking a worksheet to a video without printing a long URL.

These are all one-off jobs. Paying monthly makes sense if you manage hundreds of codes with analytics. It makes no sense for a cafe needing one laminated code.

What a QR code actually stores

A QR code holds text, nothing more. A URL code stores the address you typed and nothing about the person scanning it. There is no account attached, no identifier baked in, and no way for the code itself to know who scanned it or when. Any tracking comes from the page the code points at, not from the code.
